This episode marked the first appearance of Tori Scott (Leanna Creel); her character is the episode's titular character ("The New Girl"). She appeared in ten episodes during the show's final season in an attempt to compensate for the absence of Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen) and Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley). This substitution was acknowledged when Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies) noted, "You're my new best friend!...You're my only best friend."

Bayside's "Fall Ball" was held on a Friday night.

Bayside High School had no assigned parking for students.

Lisa Turtle was the chairman of Dance Committee. Committee members were A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez), Ginger (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras), Ox (Troy Fromin), and Pete Stonebreaker (Bryan Cooper).

Samuel "Screech" Powers tells Tori Scott (Leanna Creel), "You're never going to believe thus but there is another girl who looks just like you!" In real life, Leanna Creel is a triplet with two identical twins, Monica and Joy.
