Howard tells Sheldon and Raj about an argument he had with Professor Stephen Hawking. Hawking claimed that Johnny Depp starred in "The Matrix" while Howard disagreed. Johnny Depp was considered for the part of "Neo" in "The Matrix" before the part went to Keanu Reeves.

Kunal Nayyer again displays his ear for accents when he perfectly mimics an American accent while discussing prank calling call centers in India.

The title refers to Sheldon trying to obliterate Stephen Hawking at Words with Friends by playing the word "extract".

Sheldon reports that his mother always says "To thine own self be true." She is, in fact, quoting Polonius in Act 1, Scene 3 of Shakespeare's play Hamlet.

After the Jedi mind trick fails to get Stephen Hawking to respond, Sheldon resorts to his door-knocking tic, tapping three times on the tablet and saying "Stephen Hawking", three times in a row.

Penny, half jokingly, threatens Amy and Bernadette with "beating you both with a bag of oranges". The myth goes that beating someone with a bag of oranges can inflict a lot of pain and even cause serious internal injury without leaving any visible bruises.
