Mohammad Jamil (15) was released last summer and it was the happiest day of his life, but he can't really get it together and spends his time drifting, fighting with his father, and getting in to trouble with the Israeli soldiers again. This documentary by Norwegian photographer and filmmaker Tone Andersen is about a group of Palestinian boys who return to their homes after having been in Israeli prisons for months - one of them even two years - for throwing stones at the soldiers. The film follows a group that is going through a 3 month group therapy treatment offered by YMCA following this ordeal. The film does not engage in a discussion of the situation in Palestine by inviting the Israeli and the Palestinian adversaries to comment on the practice of imprisoning children under the age of 18. Instead the film merely follows the group of boys and shows us how they deal with coming home and the difficulties they have in picking up their pre-prison lives of going to school and plan and have hopes for their futures. The movie depicts a society where children seemingly are picked up randomly and imprisoned on charges of throwing stones and the often devastating consequences this has not just to the boys but to the entire family surrounding them. Definitely a film that gives food for thought and brings light to a not well-known situation.
