Had Ray Fox been shot dead, as he alleges two women tried to do when he reports being shot at to police, their involvement in a sinister racket might never have been found out. In his report of the shooting, Fox tells a tale that is so incredible that he does not expect to be believed, but when police investigate, they find that the truth is more incredible than Fox's tale, and discover a fraud racket connected to a murder three years earlier.
