Having had a chance to check out "Hitting Zero" at the 2004 Victoria Film Festival, I can safely say it is one of the breakout shorts of the past year.

Directed phenomenally by one of Canada's foremost female directors, Darlene Lim, Hitting Zero not only packs an emotional punch but a lesson in loving life for what it is.

The eighteen minute short tells the story of four different friends. All of them have become a bit disenchanted with getting ahead in life and are more concerned, now, with breaking even.

The direction from Lim shows a director who talent beyond the scope of her film. She gets amazing performances our of her actors and shows even better shot composition and narrative style. Her use of a photocopier to connect the scenes is a brilliant touch.

Do everything in your power to check out "Hitting Zero". It's a short that just tells it how it is and doesn't try to bash you over the head with an out there metaphor you'll never figure out.

    Highest recommendation.

This was a wonderful film. All the people in the film seemed like people that I know personally. Hitting Zero made me think, and laugh, depending on the scene. I've officially become a fan of Blue Rose Productions, and can't wait to see the next film it turns out. This film was great, and I'd love to see it again.
